The Alternative Archive

ART ON THE MOVE is Western Australia’s only organisation dedicated to touring contemporary visual art exhibitions throughout the regions, interstate and beyond. Their work explores the connections between art and place, bringing together and inspiring diverse communities.

The Alternative Archive exhibition is a survey of regional contemporary art practice in Western Australia, touring the state with ART ON THE MOVE until 2024. The Alternative Archive survey presents the work of 28 contemporary artists selected from the broader state-wide The Alternative Archive project that involved over 200 artists across 13 exhibitions in 2019. It now returns to the regions, offering a rare insight into the diversity of regional arts practice throughout the state.

The visual language for this exhibition had to speak of museum, gallery and archival aesthetics – with a contemporary twist. Invitations, posters, postcards, artist panels, social media templates and a catalogue/poster were developed as part of the project.
